Join the Applying Professional Scrum (APS) with Certification with Minecraft course and arm yourself with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to lead in the Agile world.

Why do we use Minecraft?

To create a level playing field while maintaining a complex environment for teams to experience Sprints in the context of Scrum, we use Minecraft for Education. Minecraft allows team members to practice Scrum in the complex and chaotic environment of Minecraft to experience the high-variance world of complex product development. We use Minecraft Education Edition to bring complexity to life in a scenario everyone can experience regardless of their technical ability.

The course also includes two free attempts at the globally recognized Professional Scrum Master I certification exam (PSM I)

Course Format

The Applying Professional Scrum (APS) is broken into 1/2 day live virtual sessions delivered over Microsoft Team and Mural. These 1/2 day sessions may be offered in full-days or half-days over one or more weeks, depending on this class’s format, described below in the “Learning Experience” section.

Each 1/2 day live virtual session delivered by one of our lean-agile practitioner instructors is divided into learning blocks, each with presentations and lectures in the form of videos, reading material, and writing activities provided for self-study that complement the live session.

Learning Experience

All our courses prioritize valuable learning outcomes achieved through experiential learning in a classroom setting. These courses are typically delivered over multiple half-day sessions, ensuring a focused, immersive learning experience.

The Immersion Program offers an alternative format that goes beyond the confines of the classroom, allowing students to apply their newfound knowledge in real-world situations. This program takes experiential learning to the next level by incorporating retrospectives for continuous improvement, resulting in a highly effective and practical learning experience. What exactly is an Immersion Program? It is a learning method that actively engages students in the material and encourages them to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts over an extended period of time. The benefits of participating in an Immersion Program are manifold:

  1. Practical Experience: Students gain valuable practical experience by directly applying what they have learned to their real-world environments.
  2. Immediate Impact: Students have the opportunity to create positive changes in their immediate work settings right away.
  3. Enhanced Engagement: Real-world application of learning significantly increases student engagement, motivation, and personal investment, leading to more effective learning outcomes.
  4. Safe Practice Environment: Experiential classroom learning provides students with a safe space to practice and experiment before implementing their knowledge in their actual work contexts.
  5. Collaborative Learning: The Immersion Program fosters collaboration among students, creating a dynamic learning environment that exposes participants to diverse ideas and perspectives, deepening their understanding of the topics covered in class.
  6. Reflective Insights: Retrospectives enable students to reflect on their learning journey alongside their peers and the Professional Scrum Trainer, facilitating improvements and providing deeper insights.

When you enroll in an Immersion Program, you can expect:

  • Eight interactive group class sessions, each lasting half a day, guided by a knowledgeable Professional Scrum Trainer (PST).
  • The opportunity to attempt a Professional Scrum assessment, validating your understanding and skills.
  • Assignments designed to apply your learning in your real working environment, with the support of your peers and the guidance of your Professional Scrum Trainer.

The Immersion Program is designed for individuals who have the opportunity to work with a real team on an actual product while participating in the program. If this opportunity is not available to you, you can either find a partner to collaborate with or consider attending a traditional class. It is important to note that Immersion Programs are not intended to replace our existing course offerings but rather to provide an extension and additional options. We understand that learners have different preferences and unique circumstances, and we aim to cater to these diverse needs by offering a wider variety of course delivery methods. To help you determine the learning method that best suits you, consider the following characteristics of learners:

  • Immersion Program learners are committed to applying their learning and are willing to conduct small experiments at work throughout the program. They find it easier to accommodate a half-day classroom session each week in their schedule and are comfortable independently focusing on intersession assignments. These learners thrive on hands-on experience, preferring to gain knowledge, practice in a safe environment, and then apply their learnings in real-world situations, inspecting and adapting along the way.
  • Traditional and Flipped course learners, on the other hand, are fully dedicated to taking ownership of their learning experience, which requires full and active participation over a shorter time frame. They find it more feasible to fully immerse themselves in the class and focus on learning intensively for two consecutive days. These learners excel in engaging in discussions and conversations with their peers and instructor, aiming to gain a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter, using it as a foundation for further independent learning.

We believe that by offering various learning methods, we can cater to the diverse needs and preferences of our learners, empowering them to make the most of their educational journey.

Setting Up Your Virtual Space

Participating in virtual classes requires some prep. Here's what we recommend:

  • Equipment: A computer that can run Mural and a device for Microsoft Teams. Multiple monitors are a plus but not a must.
  • MS Teams: Install it from here. It's best to use the app on Mac, Windows, or mobile rather than the web interface.
  • Appearance: We've seen it all - shadows, half-faces, up-nose, and more. Being visible and present is crucial. Think of how you'd present yourself in a physical meeting.
  • Camera: A good quality one is essential. The Elgato Facecam comes highly recommended.
  • Lighting: Ensure you're well-lit. Consider getting a face light, especially if you're in darker environments.
  • Microphone: Laptop mics aren't the best. Consider investing in a quality one, like the Elgato Wave or Yeti Blue Microphone. Use Krisp Noise Canceling to prevent background noise.
  • Background: A wall behind you works best if you're using a virtual background. Curious about my background? Just ask!
  • Attire: Wear what makes you comfortable. Whether it's formal wear, casuals, or even jammies, as long as it's appropriate, you're good to go.

Remember, the key is to be present and engaged. Let's make the most of this virtual experience together!
