Any setup of Team Foundation Server is not complete until you have at least tried t work with SharePoint. While I have many customers that like to stay away from SharePoint I also have many that make it an integral part of not just their TFS install, but their corporate network, offerings and culture.
Today I saw a demonstration by ITR Mobility of their line of business application support for having one code base, written in C# that can be deployed to practically any platform you like. Does that should like it would be of use to you? Coz it sure as hell sounds like I could use it. I want to build an app… but I want to build in Visual Studio and that would limit me to Windows Phone and I really don’t want to lead Objective C!
After installing Windows 8 I tried to do a couple of things that I normally do to set up my computer. I went to enable “Remote Desktop”… but there was no options. Hmm…
When you are running hyper-v you get the option to create private virtual switches to compartmentalise your network coms. if however you are using Windows 8 it may define those networks as “Public Networks” and tighten up your security so much that you cant communicate with other computers.
No I am not leaving Northwest Cadence. No I am not going to work at Microsoft… well I am, kind of. I have just started an engagement that will see me working as a Technical Product Manager as part of the Visual Studio Industry Partner Program.
I have not thought about an upgrade from TFS 2008 to TFS 2010 is quite a while as most if not all of my customers have already made the move to 2010. However one of my colleagues asked if I had done one recently and well… not in a while.
You get a “There is not enough free memory to run this program. Quit one or more programs, and try again.” when trying to do activities in Outlook 2013.
After installing Office 2013 on a machine with Visual Studio 2012 you get a “The procedure entry point _Atomic_fetch_sub_4 could not be located in the dynamic link library c:Program Files (x86)Microsoft Visual Studio 11.0Common7IDEdevenv.exe” error when trying to load Visual Studio 2012.
As part of my current engagement I will be moving data from FogBugz via a custom CSV Tip Adapter for the TFS Integration Platform. This an adapter I wrote a while ago to facilitate moving data from Excel to TFS and I just ant to reuse it. The first thing I need is a development environment as I may need to tweak this ancient code.
If you have not already seen the Office 2013 Preview has been made available on MSDN and on the Microsoft site. The install is ridiculously easy and includes Outlook 2013, Word 2013 and Communicator 2013. These tend to be the only parts of Office that I use, unless I an connecting to work item tracking in which case I would add Excel 2013 to that list.
