It’s that time again; get ready to upgrade to TFS 2015

With the release of Team Foundation Server 2015 CTP you should be starting to plan your upgrade strategy. It’s going to be a tough one but you should get ready to upgrade to TFS 2015 now. Mainstream support for TFS 2010 ends on 14/07/2015. If you have been looking enviously at the new features popping […]

Could not find mappings for all states defined in ‘Test Suit’ work item type

After upgrading to TFS 2013.3 you get some reports of errors in MTM from your users. Specifically they get a “Could not find mappings for all states defined in ‘Test Suit’ work item type” error when connecting. I have also seen “TF400860: TestManagement: Version 19, MinVersion: 19” in some cases in the web access.

You can’t use WITADMIN on versions older than TFS 2010

I encountered a bit of a red herring today when I was trying to rename a Work Item Type Definition (WITD) and received the message that you can’t use WITADMIN on versions older than TFS 2010. However the server was TFS 2010. I am onsite in London this week doing a migration from TFS 2010 […]

Visual Studio 2012 Update 2 supports 2010 Build Servers

Did you know that Visual Studio 2012 Update 2 supports 2010 Build Servers? Being able to connect TF Build 2010 Controllers to TFS 2010 is opening up upgrade paths for customers that are currently blocked from upgrading to TFS 2012.

Deploy from Visual Studio 2012 to iOS, Windows Phone, Android and Windows

Today I saw a demonstration by ITR Mobility of their line of business application support for having one code base, written in C# that can be deployed to practically any platform you like. Does that should like it would be of use to you? Coz it sure as hell sounds like I could use it. […]

Upgrading from TFS 2008 to TFS 2010 Overview

I have not thought about an upgrade from TFS 2008 to TFS 2010 is quite a while as most if not all of my customers have already made the move to 2010. However one of my colleagues asked if I had done one recently and well… not in a while. There are really two main […]

One Team Project to rule them all

I have talked often of the idea of a Project of Projects in Team Foundation Server and with the new feature in Visual Studio 2012 Team Foundation Server I though it would make sense to revisit. I will talk a little of the idea of the Master or Hierarchical Backlogs using the new Agile Planning […]
