Course Overview

The Professional Agile Leadership Essentials (PAL-e) is delivered as a flipped learning experience divided into learning blocks, each with presentations and lectures in the form of videos, reading material, and writing activities that are provided for self-study complemented by 1/2 day live virtual sessions delivered online using Microsoft Teams and Mural.

Professional Agile Leadership (PAL-e) Essentials is a modular workshop, adaptable up to 2-days in length based on the needs of your organization. The workshop provides a foundation for the role that leaders play in creating the conditions for a successful agile transformation. Leaders and managers are critical enablers in helping their organizations be successful, yet the role of leaders and managers in an agile organization can be quite different from what they are used to. This workshop uses a combination of instruction and team-based exercises to help participants learn how to form and support agile teams to achieve better results, and how to lead the cultural and behavioural changes that organizations must make to reap the benefits of an agile product delivery approach.

 

Becoming an agile organization is a profound transformation that requires senior leaders, middle managers, and agile team members to change the way that they organize their work, manage that work, and measure the results of the work. Agile teams cannot do this on their own; they need help from the entire organization. The changes for all involved are profound, but so are the results when everyone’s goals and ways of working are aligned.

To succeed in a changing world, organizations need to become more agile, more responsive to customer needs and market changes. This workshop will equip leaders and managers to help their organizations change by providing participants with:

  • An understanding of how agility can help you improve your organization’s performance
  • An understanding of how you, as a manager or leader, can help your organization achieve the benefits of agility
  • An understanding of how culture and values influence your organization’s ability to reap the benefits of agility

The Professional Agile Leadership Essentials course is designed for managers and those in leadership roles who are responsible for the introduction and establishment of Agile methods and techniques in an IT organization/division.

Before Attending you should

Assessments & Certification

All participants completing the Professional Agile Leadership – Essentials course will receive a password to attempt the Professional Agile Leadership I (PAL I) certification assessment. Over the 2 days, you will have learned the importance of inspection, adaptation, and fast feedback cycles. To reinforce those concepts, if you attempt the Professional Agile Leadership I (PAL I) certification assessment within 14 days and do not score at least 85%, you will be granted a 2nd attempt at no further cost.

PMI PDU Credits

Students of Scrum.org courses are able to claim Project Management Institute (PMI) PDU credit: 14 PDUs after attending a two-day Professional Agile Leadership (PAL) Essentials course. Please note that PMI PDUs are earned for course attendance and not for passing a Scrum.org assessment. Students can claim PDUs under PMI’s “Education courses provided by other third-party providers” category. You can claim your PDUs online at https://ccrs.pmi.org. Find instructions here.

Flipped Learning Experience

Flipped learning is an alternative format that moves some or all of the learning of theory away from the classroom, and reflecting and practising is done in the class (hence the name “Flipped Learning”).

Flipped Learning Experience Overview

This class comes with 16 hours of live virtual classroom experience. The course content is divided into learning blocks, each with presentations and lectures in the form of videos, reading material, and writing activities that are provided for self-study complemented by 1/2 day live virtual sessions delivered online using Microsoft Teams and Mural. These live interactive workshops create a dynamic and interactive environment where we dive into the core concepts of Agile Leadership through group activities, interactions, and sharing experiences, all with the guidance of an expert Professional Scrum Trainer.

Obtaining new knowledge through self-study materials along with having an in-depth, rich engagement in a class allows students to enjoy learning that sticks. Students will complete the course ready to take the globally recognised Professional Agile Leadership I (PALI) certification exam which is included in the course fee.

Student will leave this course with an application for Agile Leadership.

Prerequisites

  • Computer – Your computer will need to be fast enough to run both Microsoft Teams and Mural. We recommend 2 monitors so that you can see everyone and the work easily.
  • Webcam – Please consider your staging and presence; what others see when you are on video. Try to avoid backlighting that renders you in shadow, the up-nostril, the baldie, or the half-head. 80% of human communication comes from body language and other visual queues. Consider your camera angles and try to have a view that is as close to what you would expect in person across a table.
  • Internet – We recommend a strong internet to support high fidelity video both from you and with us.

Supporting people with disabilities

We do our best to support people with disabilities. Please ask us about what we can do. Closed Captioning – For persons who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, live captions allow to see what others are saying. Class Recording – A meeting recording can be helpful for people with cognitive difficulties, for example. You can go through the recording at your own pace as well as go back to double-check anything you might have missed.
