When I reflect on my journey in the agile community, one name stands out prominently: Jernimo Palacios. As a Spanish Professional Scrum Trainer (PST), Geronimo has been a beacon of inspiration and knowledge for many of us navigating the complexities of agile practices. His influence on my understanding of Scrum and the broader agile landscape cannot be overstated.

A Pioneer in Agile

Jernimo was the first individual in Spain to embrace the scrum.org framework, and he didn’t just stop there. He took it upon himself to build a thriving business and consulting network, sharing his insights and experiences with others. This spirit of generosity and collaboration is what truly sets him apart.

  • Sharing Knowledge: Jernimo has always been committed to sharing his learnings. He opened the doors to his experiences, allowing others to learn from both his successes and challenges. This kind of openness is essential in our field, where the landscape is constantly evolving.

  • Building Community: He has fostered a sense of community among PSTs, encouraging us to support one another in our professional journeys. His approach has created a network where knowledge flows freely, and everyone is invested in each other’s growth.

The Importance of Mentorship

In my own experience, having a mentor like Jernimo has been invaluable. Here’s why mentorship is crucial in the agile community:

  • Guidance: A mentor provides direction, helping you navigate the often turbulent waters of agile implementation. Geronimo’s insights have guided me through various challenges, allowing me to make informed decisions.

  • Encouragement: The journey can be daunting, and having someone who believes in your potential can make all the difference. Geronimo’s unwavering support has motivated me to push my boundaries and strive for excellence.

  • Learning from Experience: There’s no substitute for real-world experience. Geronimo’s stories of his own trials and triumphs have taught me lessons that no textbook could convey.

Looking Forward

As I continue to grow in my role, I carry forward the lessons I’ve learned from Jernimo. His vision for the future of agile is one that resonates deeply with me. It’s about continuous improvement, not just for ourselves but for the entire community.

  • Embracing Change: Agile is all about adaptability. Jernimo embodies this principle, always looking for ways to improve and innovate. This mindset is something I strive to adopt in my own practice.

  • Fostering Collaboration: The agile community thrives on collaboration. By sharing our knowledge and experiences, we can elevate the entire field. I encourage everyone to take a page from Geronimo’s book and contribute to this culture of sharing.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Jernimo Palacios has been a significant influence in my agile journey. His commitment to sharing knowledge, building community, and fostering mentorship has shaped not only my understanding of Scrum but also my approach to agile as a whole. As we move forward, let’s remember the importance of supporting one another and embracing the spirit of collaboration that Geronimo exemplifies. Together, we can continue to evolve and improve, ensuring that the agile community remains vibrant and effective for years to come.

One of the most influential people for me in agile is Geronimo Pascualo, who is a Spanish PST. He built his own business and consulting network in Spain. First person in Spain to do the scrum.org thing, and he effectively shared all and as much of his learnings from that experience with me, with the other PSTs in the community, and really became that kind of beacon of sharing and caring and looking forward into the future and trying to help fellow PSTs get better at doing the stuff that we do.
